Bishkek Choreographic School named after Cholponbek Bazarbaev was initially a music and drama studio created on October 11, 1926. By the order of Kyrgyz Regional Committee, in 1934 it was transformed into a ballet troupe and national ballet. In 1945, the studio became part of the choreographic department at Frunze music school named after M. Kurenkeev, and in 1980 received the status of an independent educational institution (specialized school).
Today, Kyrgyz Ballet School named after Ch. Bazarbaev is the only educational institution in the republic preparing professional ballet artists and artists of the folk dance. Children from all regions of the country who graduated from the fourth grade with qualifying physic for mastering choreographic art apply to Kyrgyz Ballet School.
The school is also a boarding school where students from remote regions can live. Studies lasts 7 years 10 months.
High-quality trainings for a specialist in the field of ballet involves a special type of educational institution. The main feature of the education for a ballet dancers is close combination of professional and general education. In addition, secondary educational program is the combination of both and therefore the structure of the curriculum of ballet dancers at the school is combination of several levels within a single educational sections , in which the student simultaneously masters educational programs of basic general and secondary professional education.
Methodical part of the professional training of ballet dancers in Kyrgyz Ballet School is based on the methodology of the first professor of ballet art in Kyrgyzstan- People's Artist of the USSR A.Ya. Vaganova.
